Mama’s At A Glance- August

Mama’s at a Glance- August

Whether you’re a stay at home mom, working mom, or single mom, we all want to engage our children with books, crafts, games, cooking and service every month.  But researching and planning can take time.  Time often taken up with dishes, laundry, and carpooling.  Don’t let these fun activities and events pass you by.  Take a half hour to sit down with your calendar and plan what will work with your schedule.  Try doing this a week before the month so you can gather books and other supplies you might need.  You don’t have to do it all, but pick things that you think your family will enjoy.

Have fun!!

Family Project and Service: Have a Garage Sale

August 14th is National Garage Sale Day; if you are anything like my family you have accumulated toys, clothes, and  items that frankly are just taking up space.  Take a load off and de-clutter your home with items you haven’t used in the last year.  Put on a Garage Sale and take the proceeds to buy school supplies for those less fortunate.

August 15th– 21st

Journaling for the Month:

Sit down with your child and ask him these questions.  You’ll look back on the answers with fondness.

What songs does your child like to sing- or like to hear you sing?

What is your child’s favorite breakfast?

Would you rather have to catch every fish in a large pond or have to find a needle in a room filled with jell-o?

Would you rather have one eye in the middle of your forehead or have a 6-foot-long tail?

Would you rather not be able to shower or bathe for one whole month or not be able to brush your teeth for 6 months?

Family Fun Night: Talent Night

Start the school year off right by giving the kids the confidence they need. Emphasizing their talents will give them the boost they need.  Maybe you  have a little comedian,  break dancer, or pianist.  Mom and Dad, don’t forget to show off your own talents.  Your kids will get a kick out of it.

August 22nd– 28th

National Watermelon Month

Celebrate National Watermelon month with one of these fun activities.

Family Cooking: Fruit Pizza

I’ve noticed my boys not eating as much fruit this summer, there are to many popsicles, slurpees and snow cones to be had.  This is the perfect family recipe to get the kids excited to eat fruit again.  Use any fruits your family likes.  The kids will have a blast putting the fruit on the pizza.
