Easy Makeover: Hair Feathers

What is it about being pregnant that makes us want to chop our hair off really short? It’s either while you’re pregnant or right afterwards that you want to make a change. Hormones? Maybe…sounds like a good excuse.

I had my hair cut pretty dang short before I even got pregnant so now my son is almost one and I look like the Julia Roberts version of Tinkerbell. I’m not gonna say I don’t like it because I really do! But when a woman struts by me with long flowy locks or a cute little pony tail, it makes me think “why did I do this?” Now I have to go through the agony of growing it back. I’ll get there in about…eh…three years 🙁

Another issue I dealt with was wanting to color my hair. Is it safe? Who knows. When I asked my Doc, she said that there was no evidence saying that it was unsafe but that I should wait till after I gave birth. Well now I’m nursing so isn’t it still unsafe? Grrr….

Well here’s my solution…feather extensions! Yes I said feathers. I was just getting a little trim at the salon and all the stylists had feathers in their hair! I have to admit I was like a little girl in a candy shop. There were so many styles and colors and it only takes a minute to clamp on a bead and a couple dollars…tada! Instant gratification. I wish I knew about this when I was pregnant, I would have had a different feather every week. I love the fact that you can’t even tell it’s in there when you wash and style your hair. You can even curl them!

The best part is that I got to go home and tell my 6 year old that my hair was falling out and I was starting to grow feathers.
