I’m young, I don’t need life insurance. Why would I get that, you only get life insurance when you’re old…. right? NOPE.
I’m 34 and have 2 kids to take care of, oh and a husband too. We really never thought about life insurance too much until we had our first child. My husband’s in the military so when we got married we added my name to his policy and for our $35 a month (cheap) we thought we were okay. We have enough to pay our house off and put some aside for some expenses. Not much, but it was cheap.
Well, we have kids. what do we do? If either of us dies, or both at the same time, who takes care of our kids, who controls the money, who pays off our stuff. This is a lot to think about at age 34. My husband is also union, so we had a rep come out and talk to us about the union benefits and what they offer. We signed up. Of course, it was a “sign up NOW or NEVER” type of plan, but OH, we can cancel later. Fine, you were an hour late for your appointment and stayed for 2 hours, my kids were tired. Yeah, I was NOT a happy mama with this rep. We canceled 2 months later. I was NOT impressed with her service.
So, who to go with? This question really stresses me out. I am ALL about customer service. Be nice, treat us right, show respect, be honest and you’ll get my business. If not, you’ll get a bad review.
Life insurance whether whole life or term can be expensive. Do a little research about the companies you go visit before hand so you’re prepared. Check out the Better Business Bureau, heck, post it on your Facebook wall to see who your friends go through and get their feedback about the pros and cons.
Start thinking of the tough questions you don’t want to answer…. Who will take your kids in case you both pass on? Who will control your finances? Where are you to be buried? Do you have a will? An attorney?
We thought we had a good life insurance company but it turns out we did not. We are still in the process of finding a good one who we can trust with our money, and to take care of our family.
