Winter pregnancies are great because you might be much more comfortable in the colder weather due to your elevated body (or belly) temperature. They weren’t kidding when they said a bun in the oven, you literally feel like an oven. While others are freezing and trying to cozy up to a fire, you may be trotting around outside in a blizzard with a short sleeved t-shirt on. Ok, that might not be the case for everyone but I really have seen it!
So, into the storage go the shorts, capris, tanks and anything else “summerish” and out come the long pants, long sleeve tees, leggings, sweaters…if it’s long then it’s coming out. I personally love switching out the seasonal clothing. It makes me feel like I have new clothes. Coming from an island where the temperature is a constant 96 degrees in the shade, I love the change! Well, if you’re pregnant you can still use some of those non-maternity winter items. Keep in mind, they may be a little stretched out afterwards!
Grab a belly band and keep wearing your fav jeans, Use stretchy sweater dresses and wrap a belt just above your belly, and accessorize! If none of those items exist then you may have to invest a little money for some new stuff! When I say new I don’t mean BRAND new, I simply mean New To You 🙂 Second hand maternity clothes are awesome because they’re already broken in, the amount of time used is not very long, and they are much cheaper than if you were to buy new.
Here are a couple great maternity must-have’s that you can mix and match for a different look and style each time.
Jeans- Get 2-3 pairs and be sure that one is very simple so no one will realize how often you wear them 🙂 This is the #1 item I recommend buying used. It can be the most expensive when new and when it’s used you know it’s been pre-shrunk and broken in.
Grab some leggings in a multitude of colors and styles! Leggins are not only easy to put on, they make you look slimmer too.
A basic white button up shirt. Something classy and timeless
A couple long sleeve t-shirts with ruched sides. These are more form fitting and flattering.
A soft neutral sweater and a sweater dress
A velour track suit.
Don’t forget to accessorize! A couple pairs of cute but comfy shoes, jewelry, light make-up, and don’t forget that belt! What was your favorite outfit must have article of clothing when you were expecting?
