Financial Tip #8 – Set new goals

Setting goals is a very personal thing. It’s your life and you are the only one who really knows what’s best for you and your family. People can only give you ideas on how to look at something differently; it’s up to you to sit down and look at what you need. The one rule in setting goals is…. “Set no goal that you cannot control.” If you have no ability to affect your goal, then there is no hope for a good outcome.

Get out a piece of paperand pencil, and start listing all the goals you have. Not sure where to start?  Here are some ideas: Goals for your family, marriage, health, finance, faith, career, your hobbies, vacations, technology, home maintenance, etc… Set goals for all aspects of your life.

After you’ve made your list you can start to prioritize the list and look at how much you need to save in order to accomplish everything on your list. Once you’ve accomplished a goal, celebrate, and work on the next goal. As moms we put a lot of thought into everything we do.  Don’t forget to set a goal to pamper yourself once in a while… (spa day).

Make a contact list of people who can help you reach your goal. Check in with them every so often and let them know how you’re doing.

Don’t count your assets, count your blessings.
