Whenever my husband cooks, it is complicated, expensive and out of a Bobby Flay recipe book.
It is also unbelievably good.
Here is his favorite Bobby Flay shake recipe. It comes from Bobby Flay’s Burgers, Fries and Shakes and makes great use of our back yard mint patch.
- Combine 1 cup whole milk, 1 cup coarsely chopped fresh mint leaves and 2 tablespoons of sugar in a small saucepan and cook to simmer. Transfer to a bowl, cover and refrigerate for at least 8 hours. Strain the milk into a bowl. It will create a green mint flavored milk.
- Pour mint milk into a blender. Add 4 whole mint leaves and blend for about 5 seconds. Add about 1 and 3/4 cup of premium vanilla ice cream. and blend until almost smooth.
- With the blender running, pour 1 ounce of a melted dark or light chocolate bar through the tube on the blender and blend for 5 seconds
- Serve it up.
Bobby Flay’s recipes are not for the timid chef. Even this one, though relatively simple, is not something you can pull off without a lot of advance planning. But after one sip, it’s worth it. And you’ll want to make it again. The secret is in the mint milk and the melted chocolate. Before discovering this shake recipe, every time we made our own chocolate mint shakes, the chocolate chips would simply sink to the bottom of the glass. This way, the ice cream freezes the chocolate creating the perfect chocolate flakes. Awesome.
