Craft Wars Party with Utah Blogger

My friend Emily invited me to a blogger party to watch the pilot episode of Craft Wars--a new series on TLC. Utah blogger Mandy from Vintage Revivals was invited to be one of the debut contestants and threw a party so other bloggers could meet and watch the episode together.

Before the episode started, Mandy told the 100+ bloggers a little about her experience. Craft Wars producers saw her blog and approached her about being a contestant. She and her best blogger friend spent several days in Los Angeles filming the show.

“I’m not going to say anything else,” Mandy said. “We can just watch the show together.”

When Craft Wars started, we cheered wildly for Mandy who was by far the most charming of the three contestants. Their challenge from host Tori Spelling was to make a bird house using random items from a junk drawer and any supplies they needed from the Michael’s supply closet. Their time limit: one hour.

Tough challenge. Reminded me a lot of some of the Project Runway episodes I’ve seen–right down to the critical judges.

Though in my unbiased (non-crafty) opinion, Mandy’s bird house was the coolest, the judges didn’t agree. She was out. First round.

Commercial break.

Mandy took stage again, “I’m sorry!” she said to the room full of guests. “Are you all disappointed I didn’t win?”

To be honest, yes I really was. I had never heard of Mandy before this party, but had become a fast fan. With the big party and all, I sort of expected she would at least go to round two.

But Mandy was undaunted. It was a neat experience. She met new friends. She had an awesome trip to L. A.  And now she was throwing a great party.

I left the evening really liking this blogger. I’m not sure I would have the confidence to do what she did. What kind of girl throws a big party to celebrate losing?

A winner.

Quite sure this girl (and her blog) will continue going places.
