Farmer Christiansen Had A Farm…
“Old McDonald had a farm, E I E I O. And on that farm he had a pig…” Ok, I know, I went there. And you are probably going to have that song stuck in your head now. {Snicker}
Have you heard of Christiansen Farm? We had the opportunity to take our kiddos there and meet the Christiansens and see what they are all about.

Holly and Christian started out by deciding to raise a pig. No intention of having a farm as their livelihood, just a pig to eat. That pig turned into everyone in the area talking about how completely delicious the pork was, and how it was the most amazing pork they’d ever had. The rest is history.
Christiansen Farm does things a bit different and in my personal opinion, a lot better than a few farms out there. It is absolutely incredible how they raise their animals. You can read more about that portion in my post over at Caputo’s.
Farm Kids Know How To Live
I don’t know about you, but I think farms just feel right. I don’t think I could ever raise a bunch of animals, especially due to my allergies (seriously, it’s not a cop out), but there’s something about the farm life. I love how hard farmers work. I love that they care deeply about family, friends and neighbors. I love the traditions, fresh air, and dirt under the nails. And I especially love the children. Go ahead and try to argue with me, but farm kids are just made from different cloth. I love that they are comfortable working, running around in the fields and being outside all darn day. Isn’t it possible that us city folk have forgotten where we came from and the good things that a little work and open air do for our kids? Not to mention, and I’m absolutely serious about this, our children are not learning where their food comes from. Our country was founded by farmers. It’s our heritage. And now our kids think food comes from a grocery store without any thought to the farmers that are working their tails off to provide for you and I as well as their own family.
Teaching Our Children About Food Encourages Better Health
Teaching our children, and adults about food, where it comes from, how to cook, and what’s good for them is the first step to changing our health. They even say that allowing a picky eater to see the food, touch it, prepare and cook with it is one of the best ways to help them get over their aversions. I’m dealing with a picky 2 year old right now, and let me tell you, I’m so over it. If educating my little one will not only set her up for a healthier future, but it will also help her to eat better, well I’m all in.
City Kids Head to the Farm
Christiansen Farm is located in Vernon, Utah and they love to have visitors. You can check out their info, HERE and set up a time to take the whole family, a play date, school, youth group, church group, etc out to see the farm. Our little ones even got to go hunt for eggs, and I’ll tell you what, they had way more fun than watching a movie at home. It was such a fantastic experience, and the Christiansens could not be better people. They immediately welcome you to the farm and take care of you like family.
Life is too short to waste our time working, cleaning, and doing errands. One day our little ones will be all grown up, and I don’t know about you, but I don’t want any regrets. I’m positive that I would never say, “gee I wish I would have done one more load of laundry instead of taking those kids to the farm.” Contact Holly or Christian and get out there. It’s memories that can last forever, and an experience like this will also educate and inspire your little ones. Go, breath some fresh air and remember what it’s like to be a little kid experiencing life.
