Hi! I'm Karen, a stay at home mom and blogger. Mostly I write about the new foods and recipes I've been making at my house. I like nutella, avocados, muddy buddies, mushrooms, tomatoes, peaches, berries, beans and rice, dark chocolate, cilantro, peanut butter, fried eggs and a million other types of foods. Most of the time, I like to make really easy and simple recipes--that's why I use my slow cooker a lot! I hope you find my posts helpful! Please comment and let me know when you make one of my recipes!

First off, I just want to say that this Creamy Tomatillo Ranch Dressing will change the way you think about salad or raw veggies.  Salad for dinner?  Nah.  Salad for dinner with this Tomatillo dressing?  Yes, please.  There are a lot of different versions of this dressing floating around on the internet but this is my favorite!  Hope you enjoy it as much as I do!

Creamy Tomatillo Ranch Dressing

Makes about 3 cups

  • 1 package Hidden Valley Ranch dry dressing mix
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 cup mayonnaise
  • 3 medium tomatillos (they look like little green tomatoes)
  • 1 garlic clove, minced
  • 1 bunch of cilantro
  • 1 tsp lime juice
  • 1 small jalapeno, seeded

1.  Remove the paper husks on the tomatillos and rinse well.  They have a little sticky filminess on them, so make sure to rinse that off.

2.  Rinse the cilantro and then dry with paper towels (so you don’t add any extra moisture to the dressing).

3.  Add ranch dressing, buttermilk, mayo, tomatillos, garlic, cilantro, lime juice and jalapeno to a blender.  Cover the blender and blend until creamy.

4.  Serve with salad or use as a dip for raw veggies.

* This dressing is inspired by a local restaurant favorite! Ever wondered how to make Cafe Rio dressing? This is it! Creamy Tomatillo Ranch Dressing inspired by Cafe Rio!

Mmm, can’t wait to try this one! I’ve tested a few of my own, but I can certainly use an actual recipe! Thanks

I’m only slightly embarrassed to say I may have shed a tear when it was announced Cafe Rio would be within driving distance here on the east coast… and I wouldn’t have to make my own creamy tomatillo dressing every time I got the craving!

This is a favorite in our house! Just made my third batch. I toss it with Romaine, pepitas, grated Parmesan and fried tortilla strips…delicious! Thank you so much for such a great recipe.

I don’t know how large your “bunches” of cilantro are there but ours must be MUCH larger. It was way, way too much. Also ranch was overpowering. Next time I’ll just do it to taste. But thanks for the basic recipe
