The Big Latch On 2013

The Big Latch On is a community-building event held every August, to celebrate World Breastfeeding
Week (the first week of August)

We will be hosting the Big Latch On at Honey Bump Maternity Friday, Aug 2nd. Help us break the record number of babies breastfeeding at one time!!!

RSVP to The Big Latch Facebook -there will be lots of goodies 😀

This event started in New Zealand in 2005 and was introduced to the US in 2010 by Joanne Edwards of Small Beginnings Group. It is an event where mother’s gather to break the record of women breastfeeding simultaneously. Mothers begin breastfeeding and remain latched for one full minute. Then the numbers are turned in from locations all over the world!
In 2011 5687 children breastfed across 412 location
s and 5 countries. Last year 8862 children breastfed across 626 locations and 22 countries.
The reasons for this event are simple- Support, Promote, Educate. We need to support mother’s during this important time and educate the public about how important breastfeeding is for both mother and child but especially about how normal breastfeeding is.
Find a location in your area and help support breastfeeding 😀

Growing up in the late 1950’s I didnt know anyone who was breast fed. The battle of Boob v Bottle was an old old by the time I was born and had been waging for 50 years with doctors trying to persuade mothers to ditch natural breast feeding with scientific formula. By the time I was born the battle had been won hands down by the makers of baby formula.
