The Expanding Your Horizons 2013 Conference was on Nov 2 this year. This is the 3rd year attending for 3 of my girl scouts (both my older 2 daughters attended for years as well). Expanding Your Horizons (EYH) is a conference for girls in middle school. This day-long event includes hands-on activities in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM). At the conference, girls get the chance to meet STEM role models and learn more about careers in those fields. The ultimate goal is to motivate girls to become innovative and creative thinkers ready to meet 21st Century challenges.
At an EYH conference participants will attend 3 fun-filled hands-on workshops. Workshops are led by real women who work in science, technology and engineering.
This year, my girls
● Spent time making and learning about grimy slime and oozing goo
● Made their rocket and launched it
● Created their own ice cream
● Examined live animals and learned about veterinary medicine
Registration is $16 (included Tshirt and lunch) and usually begins around the 1st of September and the Ogden conference always occurs on the first weekend in November. There is also a Salt Lake EYH that occurs in March. These conferences are sponsored by ATK.
