Are you aware that the Salt Lake City Farmers Market continues to run through the winter? This was exciting news to me! And great news it is if you are trying to feed your family healthy, unprocessed foods, like I am. The Winter Farmers Market is running every other weekend November 9th through April 26th, 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. at the Rio Grande Depot in Downtown Salt Lake City.
Buying food at the Salt Lake City Farmers Market not only supports your local farmers and vendors (which is incredibly important all on its own), but it also helps you know exactly what you’re buying and putting into your family’s bellies. But, be aware that just because this food is sold in this sort of setting doesn’t mean that pesticides aren’t used on the fruits and veggies and that the animals are all corn fed and free-range. So, if these things are important to you, get to know the vendors and ask questions. They will be willing to tell you what they use and how their animals are fed and cared for if you ask.
Before you go, decide what’s important to you. Do a little research and be ready to ask questions so you are getting exactly what you want. No matter what you’re looking for, rest assured that buying from the Farmers Market will definitely get you the freshest produce, meats, cheese, dairy, and baked goods all while you’re supporting local farmers, and vendors. Winners all around!
While you’re shopping at the market, stop by the Rio Gallery. They are showcasing “Utah 2013: Mixed Media & Works on Paper”, in which you can see the best work in Utah by both established and up-and-coming artists.
Do something good for you, your family and our great state of Utah this winter. Enjoy all the benefits of the Farmers Market without freezing your butt off!
