Camp Floyd is hosting a Pony Express Fun Run on Saturday, April 13 beginning at 10am. I’ve already signed my family up!

Experience the life of a Pony Express rider and reenact the ride in your running shoes from Camp Floyd to “St Joseph, Missouri” and back. You will deliver the mail in your own haversack, take an oath for the pony express, visit the paymaster and more!

Because the run is only 3.1 miles round trip, it’s a great educational experience for the entire family! I have signed up my entire family (me, my husband, and my two kids; 9 and 7 years old). I am not a big runner, so I will be walking the fun run with my kids.

This is a great way to teach your kids hands-on about the pony express and what they did. Camp Floyd was an actual stop on the pony express route, so it will bring the pony express to life.

Am I the only one that has had a horrible haircut? In fact, I’ve had quite a few. For example, in high school I was getting ready for my senior pictures and went to get a trim. She just kept cutting and cutting and before you knew it I had chin length hair. She had chopped it all off. I was devastated. UGH! And don’t even mention color. I went out to eat right after a color and a few people commented on how my hair looked PURPLE. WHAT?! I wanted to die.

Here’s where my favorite salon in all of Utah comes in. I was convinced that I would do major, and I mean major research before I ever got my hair cut or colored again. I found this beautiful salon, Studio Enizio and I was willing to take a chance. They were/are amazing. Each stylist is highly trained and is mostly interested in making you look beautiful and comfortable in your own hair. My particular stylist, Morgan Smith (seriously, book with her. Tell her Carrian sent you) is amazing. She’s a colorist which means she has further training on making my hair color look amazing. The salon uses high quality products that you won’t find in other salons, and will make your hair even better than it was.
Alex telling us about the Salon, the makeup artistry etc.

Recently we headed over to the salon to learn about makeup and headshots and I cannot wait to share the info with you.

Makeup

These are a few products you MUST put on your makeup list. I especially love the moisturizer. It’s the bomb. My face felt moisturized the next day!

Embroylise: Moisturizer and Primer; a must for every day. You’ll thank us later.
Mac Paint Pots: Soft Ochre or Painterly; primer for eyes so makeup lasts.
Eve Pearl Trio Eye Concealer; Don’t be scared of this trio. You need all of the colors. tip: go darker and then gradually blend to lighter in order to lighten under the eye and conceal dark circles.
Makeup Forever HD Foundations: Finally a foundation that feels light, but lasts better all day and has perfect coverage.
Makeup Forever HD Setting Powder; helps your makeup last all day, especially through a photo session.

Tips

When you are doing your makeup, consider starting with your eyes and then move on to foundation etc. This was you wont have little sparkles from eyeshadow etc on your face.

Contouring will create the jawline, cheekbones etc that you want and it’s super easy. Here’s a video on how to Contour. It’s awesome.

Highlight with a lighter shadow under your eyebrow and in the corner of your eye. Try to avoid lining your entire eye as it actually makes them look smaller.

Headshots tips by Heidi Ann Photography in Utah

Never face the camera full front. Always angle away from the camera with your weight on your back leg.

Avoid white and black; choose colors that make you look good and feel good.

Don’t stick your chin/neck out no matter what the photographer says.

Use darker pigments (makeup), not MORE makeup.

Tell the photographer what you want. If you hate the urban look but your photographer loves it and you don’t say anything, you won’t like a single photo.

Studio Enizio has become a top choice for hair and makeup for Utah, Weddings, film, television and ad campaigns. They are an exclusive provider of Kerastase products which are amazing.

You can like them on Facebook

or Follow on Twitter

Make sure you call now to book your appointment. You will never feel better about your look.

And make sure you give a little love to, The Chocolate who has the yummiest treats. They providing everything delicious for us that night

I really can’t believe it’s the end of October this week. That means Halloween, which just happens to be one of my favorite holidays. I love the costumes and the fact that I can let my kids run wildly down the sidewalks bulking up on Halloween candy. I am such a candy miser the rest of the year. I think it is fun to let them have a night of wildness (safe wildness). Plus I love fall in general (check out the Judd Pumpkin Patch in Paragonah. It is one of our favorite family traditions) and I love all the activities that go along with it. While many fall events in my neck of the woods have come and gone already there are a few events still happening that will help us get our Halloween fix. This year I come upon a strange phase of my life. My oldest won’t be trick or treating. But he still loves Halloween.

Sooo, here is where he might be this weekend or next with his zombie loving friends.

Haunted Hollow At Willow Glen Inn

October 18-20, 22 & October 25-27, 29-30

7 to 10 p.m.

Willow Glen Theatre in cooperation with Willow Glen Inn and Second Studio at SUU is hosting the Haunted Hollow. Staying in line with Willow Glen Theatre’s promise of family fun entertainment the haunted hollow offers different themes for the walks. Monday is family night and does not have zombies prowling. Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday the zombies rise to stop any trespassers on their grounds.

Price: $8 Adults, $6 kids (under 10)

And for all my kids? We are going to try and make it to the premier corn maze in Southern Utah at Staheli Farms. I have always wanted to try this 15 Acre maze.

This year they teamed up with the Biggest Loser Resort in Ivins, Utah. Look at that maze.

I also think this sounds like a ton of fun. Is anyone in Southern Utah going to the Haunted Cave?

“Halloween on the Town” features Southern Utah’s first “Haunted Cave” plus the family-friendly “Spooky Town Fair.”

The Haunted Cave will be open every weekend during October and will highlight local high school talent and creativity inside a 12,000 square foot solid rock cave.

While the Haunted Cave will entertain the community all month long, the Spooky Town Fair will be a one-day Halloween-themed fair-style event in downtown St. George at Town Square. Admission is FREE and open to the public. The Spooky Town Fair is Saturday October 27th from 10am to 6pm. It will include continuous live entertainment for the whole family, with everything from 13 bounce houses to a Witches Tea to a Pirate Gold Dig.

All profits benefit the students in the Washington County School District.

Halloween on the Town Information:

“The Haunted Cave” details:

Open October 2012 on the 5th-6th, 12th-13th, 19th-20th, 26th-27th, 29th-31st from 6pm to 11pm

Located at 1436 Redledge Rd. in Washington, UT

$10 per person.

If you’ve never experienced theatre under the stars, you are missing out. It is certainly one of my favorite summer activities. I love spreading out my quilt on the grass and relaxing, whether I’m watching a musical or listening to a concert. Add a frozen lemonade and voila! you have summer encapsulated.

The Scera, a shell shaped outdoor stage in Orem, offers a variety of entertainment. Their concert line-up is always impressive, and a bit nostalgic. (One year they had Boyz II Men. I remember loving that band as a teenager!) This summer the concert list includes the Utah Symphony, BYU’s Vocal Point, Rodney Atkins, Diamond Rio, and Starship. Concert tickets are $12-$35, depending on the show.

I know it’s cheesy, but my husband and I absolutely love musicals. I think we’ll be attending one of these to celebrate our anniversary this summer. We can pick from The Wizard of Oz, All Shook Up (think Elvis), or Fiddler on the Roof. Okay, I know we will choose Fiddler, but you can pick for yourself. Ticket prices range from $8-$14.

If musicals aren’t your thing, you can also catch a flick on their giant screen. The movie line-up features Hugo, E.T. (I think I must take my kids to see E.T. It’s a rite of passage.), Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol, The Three Amigos, the Muppets, and Newsies. Movie tickets are 3 to 4 dollars a person.

Get tickets online at www.scera.org.
