Visit the Emporium at Thanksgiving Point starting Tuesday, June 29 and get your fill of Twilight shopping madness.

Looking for that perfect something to show your eternal love of all things Twilight? The Emporium at Thanksgiving Point has a special shopping night planned to celebrate the release of Twilight: Eclipse. You and your friends are invited for a night of romance and fun Tuesday, June 29 from 7 to 11 pm. And because we love you, mention UtahMama during the Twilight Shopping event and receive 20 percent off your total purchase!

The Emporium at Thanksgiving Point is proud to present you with our Twilight Shopping Guide, your list of three must-have items this June.

Lip Venom

Instead of a gloss, Twilight Venom is a shimmering crimson lip stain suspended in a venom-laced lip conditioner with a potent bite (watch out!). It contains avocado, olive oils and vitamin E. Twilight Venom is shaken before use (to represent the blending of the human and vampire worlds) and can be applied repeatedly until lips are plumped and revitalized. With a customizable ruby stain perfect for fashionable vampires, Twilight Venom is your new must-have cosmetic.

Twilight Puzzles

Why finish a boring old puzzle in two-dimensions when this 240-piece plastic puzzle ball can challenge your mind AND grace your walls? After you’ve solved the scene of Edward, Bella and Jacob you can display a fun Twilight fan piece (perfect for your movie room!) with the included stand. The completed puzzle is approximately 6″ in diameter and is perfectly cut so each puzzle piece has an exact fit.

Twilight-Inspired Candles

Inspired by the scents of all things vampire and werewolf, Salt City Candle has an impressive selection of romantic fragrances to choose from. From Twilight (earthy Lavender Breeze) to Moon (a fresh combination of Seascape, Seaside, Tropical Rain) to Eclipse (just like being in Forks with the scent of Cinnamon Spruce!), you’ll find something that to transport you from hectic day-to-day life to an overcast forest filled with possibilities.

Twilight shopping also includes funky charms, sweet treats, Bella-esque fashion and much more. Visit the Emporium at Thanksgiving Point (located just off I-15 at Point of the Mountain) starting Tuesday, June 29 and get your fill of Twilight shopping madness.

NASA selects Thanksgiving Point for a competitive science education grant to present NASA Blast.

On the heels of NASA’s space shuttle Atlantis launch, the agency announced Thanksgiving Point as one of nine groups nationwide to receive NASA funding for science education. Beginning this summer, Thanksgiving Point will present “NASA BLAST” (Bringing Light and Space Together) to teach about space, exploration, aeronautics, space science, Earth science and microgravity.

“We are honored to work with NASA on this program, which will allow us to open new frontiers of discovery and learning for all Thanksgiving Point guests,” said Mike Washburn, Thanksgiving Point CEO. “We have a wealth of exhibits, programs and resources that will be enhanced by the NASA subject matter and hopefully leave guests with a new understanding of the world around us.”

From world-class museum exhibits to day camp activities and hands-on experiences, NASA education will factor into all of Thanksgiving Point’s unique property resources for the next year-and-a-half. Beginning July 1, Thanksgiving Point, in partnership with the acclaimed San Francisco Exploratorium, will host a travelling exhibit at the Museum of Ancient Life demonstrating the science of light and its impacts on space exploration. At Farm Country, guests will learn about space agriculture. And the Junior Master Gardeners will plant space plants and create lunar plant growth charts as they learn about the future of NASA and food in space.

The Thanksgiving Point Gardens will host a summer exhibit, “Solar Systems Walk,” which demonstrates the vast nature of the solar system and the size of and distance between planets. Guests can walk the gardens as if they are in the solar system and explore the science beyond planet earth. Thanksgiving Point will also partner with the Clark Planetarium to host solar parties.

For more information about Thanksgiving Point and the NASA BLAST program, visit www.thanksgivingpoint.org.

Junior Master Gardeners is a unique education program offered by Thanksgiving Point for children ages 8-17.

Today’s kids are faced with a complex world filled with difficult choices. From making healthy food choices to developing leadership skills, it’s a constant struggle to keep them growing in the right direction.

The Junior Master Gardener (JMG) program at Thanksgiving Point is focused on helping “Grow Good Kids.” JMG teaches kids where food comes from, how it grows and the importance of fruits and vegetables in a healthy diet.

Organized in conjunction with Utah State University Extension 4-H and located at Thanksgiving Point’s Farm Country, JMG is a summer gardening program for children ages 8-17. At the beginning of the summer, Thanksgiving Point’s Growing Leaders teen volunteers and JMG club members select which items to grow in their garden. The students choose to grow everything from tomatoes and squash to pumpkins and green beans. A favorite is the pizza garden, an area planted with all the vegetables you would want on a pizza (e.g. tomato, basil, onions, garlic and peppers).

Participants learn leadership skills, healthy eating habits and even business skills when they participate in the Thanksgiving Point Farmers Market with some of their produce. Your young ones will have a fantastic summer while learning valuable life lessons and making great friends.

Registration is now open and just $99 for the whole summer. Registration for ages 8-12 and ages 12-17 available online or by calling 801.768.2300. For more information, contact Corinne Mayberry at 801.768.4944 or email cmayberry at thanksgivingpoint dot org.

Thanksgiving Point's Tulip Festival invites you to attend Dutch Days Friday, April 23 (10 am - 3 pm) and Saturday, April 24 (10 am - 6 pm).

Visit the Tulip Festival April 23-24 for Dutch Days

Aw, the tulip. What other flower inspired a passion that made the history books? The tulip was love at first sight for Europeans who hoarded, planted, and obsessed over tulips until their tulip bubble burst in February 1623.

Here’s a quick history of how the tulip nearly brought Europe to its knees. A Dutch diplomatic envoy brought a few tulip bulbs back from the bulbs’ native Ottoman Empire (now Turkey) to show off in the 1600s. The bulbs loved the cool, wet climate and the Dutch loved the vivacious colors and shapes. Tulips quickly became the status symbol of the Golden Age and people paid increasingly crazy sums of money to own them. Tulips were so lucrative that at one point, there was actually a market trading in future tulip sales. At its peak, it’s estimated that one tulip bulb sold for several times the average annual salary of a tradesman.

Since the famed tulip mania events, Holland and the tulip have remained tightly connected. During World War II, Dutch resistance fighters would wear or display orange tulips to show support for the government in exile. Every spring in Holland, miles and miles of fields bloom with beautiful tulips and 1.2 billion more are exported. And how did Thanksgiving Point end up with a Tulip Festival? Dutch immigrants brought their beautiful tulips to their new homes in North America and around the world.

Because of all of this rich and fascinating history, what would the Tulip Festival be without a celebration of the Dutch? This year’s Dutch Day celebration is Friday, April 23 and Saturday, April 24 and promises to be the best yet. Come for the costume contest on Saturday at 3 pm and wear your best klompen (wooden clog shoes). Visit the Old Dutch Store’s booth to try some traditional Dutch fare. Or just take in some of the 250,000 tulip bulbs around you while listening to beautiful Dutch music.

We’re just hoping to keep tulip mania at bay.
